Surviving the First Half of 2009 - From the Chair Week 10
Market sliding towards depressions, unemployment, brutal winters, more baseball heros exposed for Steroid use. Further proof that everything old is new again.
The first half of 2009 is forgettable to say the least. With more friends out of jobs, the chill of winter still in my bones and the bouts of depressions the people in my worlds seem to suffer, I can’t begin to express how much I am looking forward to enjoying summer and then slipping out of 2009 like a thief in the night.
And so, as I think from this Sharper Image-esque Massage chair, I think about how this chair probably saved my sanity. Just a few minutes on a friday and all the built up angst and anxiety flooded away. But as this year has hit the halfway point, much as the MLB season has hit the halfway point, I try to look forward to the rest of 2009.
This will be the half of the year where The Sharper Image starts its return to prominence with its online store. This is the half of the year where we could see some economic growth. This is the half of the year that I spent most of the first half working towards so this of 2009 should be all downhill.
And I want to start the second half of 2009 off with a bang. I just hope that last weekends Forth of July fireworks display back home wasn’t an omen: the ceremony got rained out on the 4th and had to be postponed a day.
Here’s to hopin’ I have a little more patience in me.

I just hope this isn’t the celebration I’m looking for.
UPDATED: This post is dedicated to Austin Wuennenberg, the monorail operator at Disney World who passed away a couple days ago after a violent 2-monorail collision. Thoughts and prayers, good sir. Thoughts and prayers.
