For decades, The Sharper Image has captured our imagination with products that helped us envision the technological possibilities of the future. Now with the help of Jacmel Jewelry, The Sharper Image is going to help make that future a more resplendent place.
According to a July 22nd, 2009 TSI press release, The Sharper Image has entered into a licensing agreement with New York-based Jacmel Jewelry. With the agreement, Jacmel will begin producing men’s jewelry under The Sharper Image brand name. Accessories include cuff links, rings, necklaces, bracelets as well as men’s jewelry accessories with TSI’s signature technological enhancements.
“The Sharper Image has a long heritage of diverse product offerings including many years of carrying an assortment of men’s jewelry. This new agreement with Jacmel speaks to the brand’s legacy as well as the brand’s versatility.” - Federico de Bellegarde, VP of Licensing at The Sharper Image (source: The Sharper Image Press Release 2009/07/22)
We should start seeing the first of the line of men’s jewelry sometime around 4th quarter 2009. When TSIR finds out more, we’ll be happy to pass it along.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke just gave his semi-annual testimony on the state of the economy to federal lawmakers. His initial premise regarding the progress is as follows:
“The pace of decline appears to have slowed significantly, and final demand and production have shown tentative signs of stabilization.” (source - cnnmoney.com)
What he meant was, “Most every company not owned by the US Federal government has slashed their budgets, trimmed their workforce down to skeleton staffs, and have implemented a stabilization strategy. Meanwhile, those 6 college grads not from the Ivy league who actually got a job this summer will soon realize that the hours they’re putting in order to cling on to their position with both hands will be more profitable at Taco Bell once the minimum wage goes up on July 24th.”
And then, according to CNNMoney.com, Bernanke mentioned that the unemployment levels will not revert back to acceptable levels until 2012 - typically 5% in a Keynesian model. Which means we still have too many homes that are out of affordability range.
Tuesdays Toasts - Ben Bernanke
The Sharper Image Review’s Ben Bernanke for telling it like it is from his point of view. Everything must look the same from up there. I shouldn’t be too hard on him, he did read off of Greenspan’s notes and predict some of this. But in the same breath, I still hold him accountable until Sharper Image stores are a reality again. Afterall, I have to blame the most powerful man in the country for this predicament (you didn’t really think it was the President, did you?).
Now, I’ll make a couple concessions: it was a tragedy when the stores closed. I get sick to my stomach when people lose their jobs by reasons out of their control. And, yes, The Sharper Image lost all but all of their work force, but they’re still fighting. They’re embodying the american entrepreneurial spirit, dusting themselves off, and going back into the grind.
“But the stores are gone.”
Yes, the stores are gone. For now. But most of the products you love are still very much around. And you can find them at most of your favorite retails. Check out our post on the 11 places to find The Sharper Image products at reduced prices for more information.
Then, one day, I’ll get my ultimate goal have bringing back the store that let me have lightsaber fights next to people who sat in electric massage chairs.
Help bring back The Sharper Image. Help bring back America!
The state of The Sharper Image has been a topic on this site on more than one occasion, but I still love seeing the online talk regarding The Sharper Image:
“Is The Sharper Image still around?” “What happened to The Sharper Image?” “A slushy store is now in the mall where TSI used to be” “I miss my TSI store.” “Brookstone is the new TSI” “Still rockin’ my Sharper Image noise reduction headphones”
and the like…
So to answer the question: The Sharper Image is still very much around. And, no, not in that “Michael Jackson’s ghost at Neverland Ranch” sort of way. I mean, the company and its products are still around.
“Are they only available for resale?”
Well, yes, moreorless everything is available for resale on craigslist n eBay, but there are still new TSI products available as well.
“Are they making new products?”
The answer to this question is a shocking and resounding, “YES!”
“How is that possible?”
Because the brand was bought out during bankruptcy proceedings with the hopes by its new owners of creating more demand.
Time to officially start the new series, “Juicin’” where we scour the interets and recipe books lookin’ for new ideas to make with a Sharper Image Super Juicer.
We’ve been looking forward to this segment for quite sometime and when I say, “we” I mean, “me and my expanding waistline.” My waistline is no longer in sync with my body. That is to say that when I go right it still wants to go left and that’s a little hard to content with - especially for a reformed jock.
So, without further adieu, here’s
The Sharper Image Review’s Juicin’ Week 1 Recipe - Melonade

At first listen i was a little skeptical, but then I thought about my passion for strawberry lemonade and Arnold Palmers (half lemonade, half iced tea).
I”m looking forward to trying this.
